Mishkat is a not-for-profit interactive science discovery center, established on the initiative of K●A●CARE, with the mission to support the Kingdom’s central role in the energy economy by engaging the general public in the importance of energy in their daily lives, educating the Saudi youth of today about atomic and renewable energy, and inspiring them to become energy innovators of tomorrow.
Mishkat explores the science of energy, its everyday importance and the potential of alternative energy for transforming the capture, storage and transfer of energy to power the ever-changing world. Inspired by global best practices in the field of science communication, Mishkat encourages creative problem solving, active discussions, learning through play and structured discovery by students and teachers. The learning approach encourages students actively to explore, make their own connections and realize their own potential.
Expanding its horizons Mishkat has partnered with Saudi Aramco in creating a traveling interactive exhibit “Saudi 2050” that examines how people’s lives might be that far into the future. The Center has also formed an association with King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted and Creative (Mawhiba) in developing a summer program, “Kingdom of Sustainable Energy”, that targets gifted children and informs them about energy, atomic and renewable energy and the energy future of Saudi Arabia whilst encouraging their feedback and participation.
Mishkat is the first center of its kind globally as it is focused solely on energy, both conventional and non-conventional. It is a full member of the American Association of Museums, the Association of Science and Technology Centers and of Ecsite, the European Network of Science Centers and Museums.
