Three senior executives lead K●A●CARE’s day-to-day activities.
Dr. Hashim Abdullah Yamani is the President of King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy (K●A●CARE) since its establishment in April of 2010. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A in Physics from Harvard University, B.A. in Physics, and B.A. in Mathematics from University of California, Berkeley. Throughout his academic career, Professor Yamani Chaired the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Physics Department and was the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Assistant Director of Research Institute, and the Manager of the Renewable Energy Division of the University’s Research Institute. In addition, he was a Guest Professor at the University of Bielfield, West Germany and a Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Western Ontario, Canada. From a public service point of view, H.E. Dr. Yamani has an outstanding resume as the Minister of Industry and Electricity and Minister of Commerce and industry. He also chaired multiple governmental boards including:

Internationally, Dr. Yamani resented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on many occasions as the head of:
Dr. Yamani’s background and experiences has enabled him to achieve critical milestones of national significance in the field of electricity such as the restructuring of the Saudi electricity sector, the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority, and the Electricity & Co-Generation Regulatory Authority.
Besides his role in Saudi’s accession to the WTO, Dr. Yamani contributed to the development of Saudi trade and industrial prospects through his role in internationalizing SABIC’s operations, the establishment of Saudi Industrial Property Authority, and the formulation of Saudi’s National Industrial Strategy.
Dr. Waleed Hussain Abulfaraj has served as the Vice President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K●A●CARE) since its establishment in April of 2010. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and a B.Sc. in Physics from King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
During an extensive and distinguished academic career, Dr. Abulfaraj held numerous high-ranking university positions, including President of Umm Al-Qura University, which he held until his appointment to his current position at K●A●CARE. Previously, during his career at King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Abulfaraj served as Vice President for Projects, Vice President for Branches, Supervisor General for University Campus Administration, and Professor, Dept. of Nuclear Engineering.
At King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Abulfaraj chaired the Faculty of Engineering team that planned for and acquired the International Academic Accreditation for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for all the Faculty of Engineering’s programs and specialties.
Dr. Abulfaraj also supervised and participated in the establishment of numerous laboratories at King Abdulaziz University, including the “Atomic Analysis” Laboratory, the “Whole Body Counter, Nuclear Data M. WBC 600-IG” Laboratory, the “Low Background Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and liquid Scintillation Analyzer” Laboratory, the “Non Destructive Testing” Laboratory, and various radiation protection laboratories.
Dr. Abulfaraj is also a member of numerous scientific societies, including:
Dr. Abulfaraj was awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal of The First Order on 26/8/1425H, and has been awarded numerous additional medals and certificates from various universities and governmental and non-governmental institutions in Saudi Arabia and abroad.
He holds two patents in the United States and has published more than 75 research papers in specialized scientific fields. Dr. Abulfaraj has had more than 15 national research projects financed by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, and King Abdulaziz University.
