 Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources visits Masdar City in United Arab Emirates

HE the Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, Chairman of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy K.A.CARE, Engineer Khalid Al-Falih visited Masdar City in United Arab Emirates on 17 Rabi II, 1438H (15th January, 2017G).  He was received with his accompanying delegate by HE State Minister, Chairman of "MASDAR" Dr. Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, and a number of the executive committee members in MASDAR Company.

 

The visit included a tour of scientific and technical facilities in MASDAR city, also the minister and his accompanying delegate participated in high level dialogue session aiming at supporting cooperation in the area of renewable energy.  HE Khalid Al-Falih praised the spirit of cooperation and MASDAR company readiness to support the growth and development of new and important sectors, and the work done to develop renewable energy and application of clean techniques, he said during this dialogue we can accomplish reciprocal benefits in terms of the innovation process to get together to the ultimate goal represented in strengthening the share of renewable energy in the energy mix.   HE added that "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is on the threshold of launching its first round of tenders related to its national program of renewable energy and we are confident that the meeting represents an ideal opportunity comes just in time. 

For his part HE Dr. Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber said (The United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are linked by lengthy fraternal and historical relations whose bases are deeply rooted thanks to the wise leadership of both countries, and covered all economic, social and political sectors and we share with our brothers in the Kingdom the ambition aiming at securing a diverse mix of energy resources which constitutes one of the main factors for enhanced trade and economic growth".  He noted that this meeting comes in conjunction with Abu Dhabi Week for sustainability, and constitutes a precious opportunity for MASDAR city to discuss the common goals and exchange ideas and to consider frameworks of cooperation which will enable achievement of goals to which we aspire.

Participants from the Kingdom reviewed with the participation of HE the Vice President of K.A.CARE Dr. Waleed Hussain Abulfaraj, during the panel session, the interim targets, the introduction of renewable energy in the national energy mix which is considered part of the Kingdom's vision 2030, also the emirates side discussed during the session some aspects of the Emirates strategy for energy 2050 that have been recently announced.

Abu Dhabi Week for Sustainability which attracts more than 38000 visitors from 175 states including more than 80 governmental ministers, 880   exhibiting companies from more than 440 states, is considered the largest gathering in the middle east focusing of the interconnected challenges of energy security and water, climate change and sustainable development.
