 The Kingdom participates in the meetings of the Board of Governors of the International Agency of Atomic Energy

The Kingdom participated in the meetings of the Board of Governors which follows the International Agency of Atomic Energy in its new round which started in the morning of Monday 5th Zul Hijjah corresponding to 29th September 2014, this participation comes after the Kingdoms success in attaining the membership of this council anew for another two coming years. The Kingdom was nominated during the activities of the general conference for the membership of the council. The Kingdom success is considered an appreciation of the international community for the Kingdom’s efforts in this scope. The International Agency for Atomic Energy is an independent international organization that works according to cooperation agreements between her and the United Nations Organization and other Int’l organization . The number of member states in the Agency reached 165 state. The Agency was established on 29th 1957 for the purpose of encouraging the peaceful use of atomic energy and to reduction of nuclear arms, and to carry out this task, it performs control, inspection and investigation works in the states which have nuclear facilities.
The Board of Governors in the International Agency for Atomic Energy is considered the Agency’s most important body in formulating decisions and drawing strategic guidelines and policies for the Agency. Also, the Board of Governors is the legislative, regulatory and executive arm to the Agency’s works. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is considered one of the active and effective states in the scopes of the Agency’s works, as it has it taken over, represented by King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, the presidency of the Committee of the whole of the general annual conference of the International Agency for atomic energy for the year 2012, also the membership of Board of Governors of the International Agency for atomic energy during the period 2011 to 2013. ( Also the KSA had positive and effective participations in more than twenty ministerial conferences and international symposiums and workshops organized by the IAfor AE during the period 2011 to 2014) to present the Kingdom’s vision in the sound use of atomic energy and to contribute to the sustainable development in it and to benefit from all that in elevating the living standards and improving life quality in the Kingdom .
KSA pays accurate follow up to the activities of the Board of Governors through its contribution in enriching the discussion of its decisions and formulating them before being sent for final approval. This requires in depth knowledge and close follow up of what is discussed mainly because of its effects on the nature of legislations, its benefits and disadvantages and the impacotoftt of ioolimit its effects in the state’s programs, politics and national commitments that must be carried out in application of said legislations and laws.
