 Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency convenes in Vienna

Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency held its meetings in its regular session during the period from 23rd to 27th Dhaul-Qadah (7-11 September 2015) in Vienna, the Kingdom’s delegation was presided over by Dr. Waleed AbulFaraj, Vice-President of  King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy, It is noteworthy to mention that last year Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was elected during the general assembly of the Agency to the membership of the Agency’s governing board for two years.  The Board includes in its membership thirty five countries.  The Council is considered one of the most important decision-making devices and in the development of the Agency’s policies and decisions for the  promotion of the capabilities of member states in the use of atomic energy and nuclear techniques in peaceful areas.  The Board discussed at its current session the Agency’s policies and directions in a number of subjects amongst which the international cooperation in the scope of safety and nuclear security and the promotion of the Agency’s activities in the application of scientific and nuclear techniques to support development projects in member states and to assist it in finding solutions to some of the problems it encounters.  The Board also discussed the mechanism of application and implementation of special safeguards agreement relevant to the non-proliferation of nuclear arms in a number of member states.
