 President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Vists Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces

His Highness General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces received this morning at his office in Abu Dhabi Dr. Hashim Abdullah Yamani, President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. In his company was Dr. Walid Abolfaraj, the Vice-President. Various aspects of cooperation in the field of Nuclear Energy between the two brotherly countries were discussed during the meeting.

Asserting the brotherly and neighborly relationships binding the two countries; and Seeking to enhance mutual cooperation and cordial relations prevailing between the two countries; and Desiring to establish a wide-scale cooperation between them in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy for the prosperity and well-being of the two brotherly peoples; and Affirming the paramount importance to develop new energy resources; The two sides agreed that it was imperative to initiate taking the necessary steps to sign a Mutual Cooperation Agreement in the nuclear field that would help meet the relevant requirements with respect to border nuclear installations, starting from conducting studies on siting nuclear installations, their establishment and operation phases, and studies on nuclear safety and radioactive protection. It is in place to point out at this point that similar agreements are usually made and entered into among those neighboring states using nuclear energy, such as the European Union states.

In conclusion, Dr. Yamani presented to His Highness General Sheik Mohammad Bin Zayid the proposed draft protocol for mutual cooperation in the nuclear field, in the form previously adopted by the Council of Ministers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Hence, the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy was duly mandated to negotiate and sign the proposed protocol.

It is noteworthy that the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy is firmly determined to introduce an integrated system of atomic and renewable energy resources with a view to enhance the production of electricity and desalinated water in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to attain such a promising and bright future for the Kingdom.
